My Background
Hello, I'm Captain Randy — founder of Blue Ocean Enterprises, LLC and a US Coast Guard licensed 100 ton Master Captain with over 18 years of professional experience operating both sail and power vessels. Before that, I spent decades as an entrepreneur and executive, but the water was always where I felt most at home.
My at-sea experience spans 60+ years — from small sailing dinghies on inland lakes to 70-foot motor yachts along the Southern California coast. I've logged 30+ years cruising SoCal coastal waters and 25 years in and around the Santa Barbara Channel and Channel Islands specifically. I'm based in Ventura County, but have provided services along the California Coast from San Diego to San Francisco.
For over a decade I've provided private boating instruction to owners of sail and power vessels ranging from personal watercraft to 70 foot yachts. Whether you need instruction, a delivery, a sea trial, or someone to look after your vessel — I bring the same professionalism and care to every engagement.

10+ Years Private Instruction
Over a decade providing private boating lessons to owners of sail and power vessels ranging from 35 to 72 feet in length.
USCG 100 Ton Master's License
US Coast Guard Master 100 Ton license with an Auxiliary Sail Endorsement — USCG Reference #2824287.
Power & Sail Qualified
Experienced across a wide variety of both sail and power vessels — from small dinghies all the way up to 70-foot yachts. Comfortable on monohulls, catamarans, and powerboats of all sizes.
Offshore Passage Experience
25+ years cruising the Santa Barbara Channel and Channel Islands, with extensive coastal and offshore passage experience including multi-day and overnight voyages.
USCG Drug & Alcohol Compliance
Enrolled in the Maritime Consortium, Inc. random drug testing program — providing comprehensive compliance with USCG's mandatory drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Based in Ventura & Santa Barbara County
